GRADUATE FROM NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY IN QATAR
Yazid Taki is a Moroccan filmmaker and recent graduate of Northwestern University in Qatar, where he specialized in Communication, Film and Design. His work explores themes of loss, human connection, and societal decay through deeply personal storytelling.
His short films include Lifeline (a non-linear exploration of grief and hallucination), Everyday (a 24h production of a whimsical two-minute portrait of claustrophobia inside a broken elevator), and Liar Busker Love (a story about a street musician’s desperate attempt to impress).
His most ambitious works to date are Bint Al Sayyad, imagining a post-apocalyptic Arab world where a young girl defies societal collapse to pursue a simple act of creation. And a documentary about the fauna in Qatar where he collected footage from all around the peninsula into a repertoire of the most unique creatures in this country.
Beyond directing, Yazid Taki has worked across various crew roles in numerous short films, gaining hands-on experience as a gaffer, director of photography, and key grip. However, his main discipline outside of directing is editing.
Alongside his independent projects, he has participated in the French Institute’s CultureLab program and attended the La Rochelle Cinema Festival. He currently works as a multimedia executive in Qatar, continuously seeking to create meaningful, narrative-driven content that challenges and moves audiences.
I also recently joined a theatre troupe, Scène des Sables, as an actor in a play called Musée haut, musée bas which tells the story of a herds of ignorant tourists shuffling between galleries while a natural disaster lurks.
